Recently, KTH Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) Executive Vice President Mikael Lindström led a delegation to visit South China University of Technology (SCUT) and signed an agreement with Vice President Lin Yiwen to establish the Bamboo Pulp and Paper Joint Innovation Center. Professor Lindström also gave a keynote speech on sustainable development at the SCUT's Overseas Master Forum with SCUT Vice President Li Weiqing’s presence.

During the meeting, Vice president Lin Yiwen congratulated the establishment of the Joint Innovation Center and noted that KTH is not only a long-standing partner but also a core strategic collaborator in SCUT's internationalization efforts. He emphasized that the launch of the center marks a significant upgrade in their collaboration. Lin expressed his hope that both sides would fully leverage their complementary disciplinary strengths and engage in in-depth cooperation in key areas such as the research and development of core technologies in bamboo pulp and paper, transformation of scientific and technological achievements, and joint cultivation of high-level talents through this platform. He also looked forward to expanding cooperation in the field of sustainable development and innovating talent development mechanisms. Professor Lindström emphasized KTH's high regard for cooperation with SCUT. He pledged KTH's full support for the center, calling for joint efforts to advance cooperation plans, draft feasible roadmaps and ensure project implementation in bamboo pulp-paper research and talent development.

The center is co-founded by SCUT's School of Light Industry Science and Engineering, National Engineering Research Center for Papermaking, and KTH's Department of Fibre and Polymer Technology. Aligned with national Dual Carbon goals and raw material self-sufficiency needs, it will focus on bamboo resource high-value utilization, green material development, paper-based plastic alternatives and carbon neutrality assessment.

Before the lecture, SCUT Vice President Li Weiqing presented an Appointment Letter for Honorary Professor of SCUT to Professor Lindström.
