Recently, the National Finals of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Entrepreneurship Competition were held in Foshan City, Guangdong Province. The competition was co-organised by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the Central People's Government's Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, and the People's Government of Guangdong Province. The competition was co-hosted by the Department of Human Resources and Social Security of Guangdong Province and South China University of Technology. Tang Hongwu, President of South China University of Technology, attended the opening ceremony of the finals and delivered an address.

In his address, Tang Hongwu stated that entrepreneurship is both a defining characteristic of the Greater Bay Area and an inherent trait within the DNA of South China University of Technology (SCUT). For many years, SCUT has steadfastly served national strategies, boldly taking the lead in higher education within the Greater Bay Area. As a ‘National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Practice Base,’ it has cultivated a large number of outstanding talents with exceptional innovation, entrepreneurship, and creative capabilities for the high-quality development of both the nation and the region. Within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, over 200 listed companies or major enterprises have been founded or led by SCUT alumni. The university remains committed to innovation-driven development, serving as a power engine supporting the Greater Bay Area's high-quality growth. As one of the first ‘University Science and Technology Achievement Transformation and Technology Transfer Bases,’ it has incubated more than 430 enterprises to date, nurturing a cohort of technology companies distinguished by strong innovation capabilities and outstanding market performance.


Tang Hongwu remarked that this year's competition has yielded a wealth of outstanding projects and teams, showcasing the pioneering spirit of young people in the Greater Bay Area who dare to be trailblazers. Moving forward, South China University of Technology will adopt an even more open approach to deepen collaborative partnerships with universities, research institutes, enterprises and other sectors of society, jointly fostering a more sustainable innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.

As the sole host institution for the competition, South China University of Technology had previously undertaken preliminary and semi-final rounds for the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, and Food Science and Modern Agriculture categories, alongside organizing resource-matching activities for the semi-finals. The university advanced eight projects to the finals across three categories: Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, Integrated Circuits and Low-Altitude Economy, and Food Science and Modern Agriculture. Ultimately, it secured one Special Award, two Bronze Awards, and five Excellence Awards.
