Gary Histand joined the ISAM faculty at SCUT in 2017. He has taught chemistry since receiving his PhD from Northwestern University in 1989. He enjoys his interactions with students and is known for telling some really good chemistry jokes. He has presented numerous chemical demonstration shows and enjoys talking to people about science and chemistry. When not doing science, he enjoys playing card and table games, running, and getting together with friends.
Dr. Histand’s research interests deal with organic chemistry reactions. Currently, we are developing photobase generators and ionic liquids as initiators of DGEBA polymerization. In addition, he is interested in the chemistry of purine and purine derivatives.
