Professor Chao Lang joined SCUT’s faculty in 2021. He earned his BS and PhD in chemistry from Jilin University. Before Joining SCUT, He was a postdoc scholar at the Pennsylvania State University, co-advised by Prof. Robert Hickey and Prof. Manish Kumar. He was awarded with ACS PMSE Future Faculty Scholar in 2020 and Distinguished Young Scholars of NSFC (Overseas) in 2022. His research interest is in biomimetic chemistry and self-assembly materials.
Prof. Chao Lang’s research focuses on developing biomimetic soft materials, with an emphasis on non-equilibrium structures inspired by living systems. By mimicking biological structures and functions across molecular, cellular, and tissue levels, the group aims to create functional materials with diverse applications. Their work includes synthetic ion channels for efficient ion transport in medicine, sensors, and neuron-machine interfaces, as well as responsive materials mimicking biological tissues for use in prosthetics, smart clothing, and robotics.
