Abstract:

Gut microbiome (GM) dysbiosis have been found to precede metabolic diseases like obesity, immune diseases like asthmaand other gut-related diseases, making intervention through GM manipulation attractive. Bacteriophages (phages) are viruses attacking bacteria in a hostspecific manner. There is growing understanding that phages (and possibly othercomponents of the gut virome) play key roles in shaping GM composition and consequently influence the trajectory towards health or disease. During recent years the ability of more or less complex consortia of phages and even undefined fecal viromes (sterile-filtered faeces) have shown great promise inalleviating GM dysbiosis related diseases such as Clostridioides difficile infection, metabolic syndrome and necrotizing enterocolitis. In this talk, therole of phages in gut health will and lined out and examples of the use of phages and fecal viromes for treating GM dysbiosis related diseases will begiven.
