Abstract

On Nov. 6th, Professor Zhongli Pan had given an excellent speech on “Innovative research and technologies for food and agricultural processing” in the Dongtang Hall. More than 100 students attended the splendid lecture.

Professor Pan first gave a brief introduction of the University of California, as well as the Davis campus by presenting some pictures of several symbolic buildings. Then a great program on energy recycle in Davis was described in detail, involving the use of the overall energy produced from waste, which had left a deep impression on all the teachers and students at present.

His speech focused on the innovative researches and technologies for food and agricultural processing, he showed one of his researches on the modeling and optimizing on the processing of tomatoes. He explained how the material was selected and how the peels of the tomatoes were removed by a machine designed by his research group. He presented to us how to apply laboratory research into industry. Professor Pan also shared his view on scientific research. He pointed out the advantage and shortcomings of Chinese students and gave some advice on research work to young teachers and master students. Everyone had benefit a lot from this brilliant speech.
