From December 26 to 28, 2025, the Forum on Interdisciplinary Integration of Environment and Energy was successfully held in Lecture Hall 215, School of Environment and Energy, University Town Campus, South China University of Technology. Focusing on the interdisciplinary integration and innovative development in the fields of environment and energy, the forum actively promoted disciplinary construction, scientific research cooperation and in-depth industry-university-research integration through various forms such as academician reports, expert keynote presentations, young scholar exchanges, and industry-university-research enterprise dialogues.

The academic forum held from December 27 to the morning of December 28 invited Academician Zheng Lansun from Xiamen University, Academician Guo Lin from Beihang University, as well as renowned experts and scholars from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, Tongji University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Hunan University and other universities to deliver keynote speeches. The industry-university-research cooperation forum and the General Meeting of Members of the Special Committee on Ecological Environmental Protection and New Energy of the Greater Bay Area Alumni Development Alliance of South China University of Technology (hereinafter referred to as the Special Committee) held on the afternoon of December 28 attracted more than 60 alumni and entrepreneur representatives from environmental protection and new energy enterprises and scientific research institutions in Guangdong Province. All members of the leadership team of the School of Environment and Energy, South China University of Technology and more than 100 teachers and students attended the forum.
On December 27, the forum kicked off under the chairmanship of Professor Yan Keyou, Dean of the School of Environment and Energy. Professor Lin Yiwen, Vice President of South China University of Technology, delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the university, briefly introducing the university's educational achievements and expounding the significance of interdisciplinary integration of environment and energy. Academician Zheng Lansun delivered a report entitled Development of Mass Spectrometry Instruments and Related Applications in Energy and Environment, analyzing in depth how advanced mass spectrometry technology promotes material characterization and reaction mechanism research, providing key technical support for precise detection and process optimization. Academician Guo Lin gave the second academician report entitled Controllable Synthesis and Properties of Inorganic Amorphous Micro-Nano Materials, systematically introducing a new type of amorphous material system with potential in the fields of energy storage and catalysis and its cutting-edge research progress.

Professor Yang Shihe from Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School, Professor Xu Jianbin from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Professor Dai Xiaohu from Tongji University, Professor Feng Yujie from Harbin Institute of Technology, Professor Peng Dongliang from Xiamen University, Professor Tang Lin from Hunan University, and Associate Professor Xiao Shuang from Shenzhen Technology University delivered wonderful keynote speeches successively, covering hot topics such as energy materials, nano-chips, pollution control, wastewater treatment, resource recycling, and low-carbon technologies, pointing out the direction for the interdisciplinary integration and innovative development of the School.

During the forum, Professor Zhu Nengwu, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School, delivered a report on the disciplinary construction and development of the School. To support the growth of young scholars, the forum set up a number of special young talent sessions. Young teachers from the School including Professor Chen Yan, Professor Yan Keyou, Associate Professor Zhu Shishu, Professor Qiu Guanglei, Professor Yang Chenghao, and Professor Chen Yu gave reports on their research achievements successively, demonstrating the vitality of the School's young research team. After the presentations, in-depth and warm discussions were held on the topics of disciplinary development of the School and the growth of young talents.
On the afternoon of December 28, the industry-university-research cooperation forum and the General Meeting of Members of the Special Committee were presided over by Zou Yao, Secretary-General of Guangdong Society of Environmental Sciences and Secretary-General of the Special Committee. Jiang Hai, Deputy Dean of the Research Institute of Science and Technology of South China University of Technology, Huang Yancong, Secretary-General of the Greater Bay Area Alumni Development Alliance, and Professor Yan Keyou, Dean of the School of Environment and Energy, delivered welcome speeches respectively, focusing on scientific and technological innovation, alumni cohesion, and industry-university-research integration, and jointly looked forward to a new blueprint for green and low-carbon development. Xie Quanmo, Executive Director of the Special Committee, delivered a work report, reviewing the progress and achievements of the Special Committee since its establishment.

In the industry matching session, representatives from enterprises including Guangdong Water Investment Group Water Supply Co., Ltd., Huicheng Environmental Protection, Southern Environmental Protection, Jinpeng Environmental Protection, Foshan Water Environment Investment, and Zhiguang Energy Storage shared industrial demands and practical experience. Professors Wang Xiaojun, Feng Chunhua, Su Xintai, and Zhu Yun from the School introduced the relevant cutting-edge technological achievements of the School and their application prospects. To deepen the integration of talent training and industrial practice, the School signed joint training base agreements with Guangdong Environmental Protection Research Institute, South China Institute of Environmental Sciences, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Eco-Environmental Science Center and other institutions on site, and issued appointment letters to a number of industrial supervisor representatives. A number of industry-university-research cooperation project signing ceremonies were also held at the meeting, effectively promoting the transformation and implementation of scientific and technological achievements.

The meeting announced the list of members of the Special Committee, voted to adopt the revised articles of association and the list of additional members of the organizational structure, and issued appointment letters to the new members. Finally, Professor Zhu Nengwu, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Environment and Energy, South China University of Technology and Director of the Special Committee, delivered a concluding speech, drawing a successful conclusion to the meeting.
Through multi-level and multi-form exchanges, this forum effectively promoted the interdisciplinary integration of environment and energy disciplines, strengthened school-enterprise cooperation and talent co-education, further stimulated the bridge role of the Special Committee, and injected new impetus into green technological innovation and industrial upgrading in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
