On December 18-20, 2022, the 9th Annual Academic Conference, sponsored by the South China University of Technology and the Volatile Organic Pollution Prevention and Control Committee of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences (hereinafter referred to as the Committee), co-sponsored by Qingdao Huashijie Environment Technology Co., was held online due to the pandemic.  Academician Liu Wenqing from Hefei Institute of Physical Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences (Chinese Academy of Engineering), Academician Zhu Tong from Peking University (Chinese Academy of Sciences), Academician Chen Jianmin from Fudan University (European Academy of Sciences) and other experts, scholars and environmental workers from universities, research institutes, environmental management departments and environmental service companies attended the conference. Professor Ye Daiqi, Secretary General of the Committee and Dean of the School of Environment and Energy of South China University of Technology, and Professor Shao Min, Director of the Committee, Assistant to the President of Jinan University and Director of the Institute of Environment and Climate, presided over the first and second half of the annual keynote report respectively.

Academician Liu Wenqing gave a keynote presentation entitled Advances in Field Monitoring Technologies for Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), introducing recent research progress in monitoring gaseous pollutants such as VOCs at multiple levels in industrial enterprises, parks, cities, regions and the globe. Academician Zhu Tong gave a presentation entitled Health Effects of Atmospheric Ozone, which introduced the issues of air pollution, climate change and human health that are of great concern to the public. Academician Jianmin Chen gave a lecture entitled Mechanisms of formation of atmospheric nitrogen and sulfur-containing organic species, introducing the latest research results of his team on the mechanisms of nitrogen and sulfur organic species generation in the gas phase and monitoring methods. Professor Shao Min delivered a lecture entitled How to Quantitatively Monitor Atmospheric Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), which analyzed the difficulties and solutions of how to accurately and  quantitatively monitor atmospheric non-methane total hydrocarbons and VOCs. Professor Ye Daiqi gave a presentation entitled Production and emission analysis and deep purification of difficult-to-treat organic compounds in the enamel wire industry, which discussed the whole process of VOCs production and emission analysis and catalyst-based deep purification technology in the enamel wire industry with the objective of difficult-to-treat organic compounds in this industry. Liang Peng, Director of the Research Institute of Qingdao Huashijie Environment Technology Co. Ltd. and Professor from Shandong University of Science and Technology, reported the achievements of Qingdao Huashijie Environment Technology Co., Ltd. in promoting the localization of key materials and equipment such as adsorption and catalysis through basic research in his report VOCs Treatment and Enterprise Technology Innovation

In addition to the keynote presentation, there were also five sessions, namely VOCs and the formation of atmospheric haze and ozone, VOCs monitoring technology and pollution prevention strategies, new materials and technologies for VOCs treatment, the whole process control of VOCs pollution and the synergistic control of VOCs and other kinds of pollution, with a total of 64 presentations. During the conference, the participants presented the latest research results and discussed the future R&D around the above five aspects. The conference was attended by more than 8,800 participants in total.
