On August 17, 2022, the final of the 1st University Student Science and Technology Innovation Contest on Low-carbon & Recirculation was held. The project Simultaneous Short-range Nitrification and Denitrification - Sulfurized Anaerobic Ammonia Oxidation Gradient Limit Denitrification Technology and its Application in Fermentation Pharmaceutical Wastewater, which was brought by the team of Lin Wenmin and directed by Researcher Chen Yuancai from the School of Environment and Energy, won the Grand Prize.
The 1st University Student Science and Technology Innovation Contest on Low-carbon & Recirculation was sponsored by the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation (national-level) and co-organized by the Consortium of Resource and Environment Societies of Zhejiang Association for Science and Technology, School of Energy Engineering of Zhejiang University , Environmental and Energy Policy Research Center of Zhejiang University, School of Environment and Resources of Zhejiang University of Science and Technology, Zhejiang Provincial Society of Recycling Economics and Zhejiang Provincial Green Science and Technology and Culture Promotion Association. The competition involved more than 20 provinces, municipalities and municipalities directly under the Central Government, with a total of 904 teams and 5230 participants. The competition closely followed the theme of Low-carbon Recirculation, Green Development, mainly focusing on low-carbon cycle theory research and current investigation, resource and energy conservation technology innovation or new product development, waste recycling technology innovation or new product development, new energy development and utilization or new product development, greenhouse gas emission reduction and carbon sequestration technology or new product development, low carbon cycle on biodiversity conservation research and other fields, which reflected new ideas, new principles, new methods, new technologies and new products, participants were required to submit experimental research, research reports or product design and application of results, and etc.
Our team screened specific strains of bacteria to achieve deep step denitrification under differentiated carbon sources through the coupling of short-range simultaneous nitrification and denitrification and sulfur autotrophic denitrification/aerobic ammonia oxidation technologies. In terms of industrialization, the team combined enhanced pollutant reduction as well as low-carbon treatment, adapting to the domestic and international technical requirements for wastewater treatment.
