Make Another Success! Two Achievements Made in the 2020 Guangdong Science and Technology Award

On the morning of May 20th, the Guangdong Province Science and Technology Innovation Conference was held in Guangzhou. The conference awarded the 2020 Guangdong Science and Technology Award, in which our school won two achievements, including one first prize and one second prize.

Project Introduction


1. Pollution control strategy and key technology and application of high blowing rate and low concentration of industrial volatile organic compounds


Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are important pollutants causing the air pollution compounded by ozone and PM2.5, and they are the weak points in air governance. Aiming at the problem of high-efficiency purification of high blowing rate and low concentration of waste gas, the adsorbent with large VOCs adsorption capacity and the oxidation catalyst with the lowest publicly reported reaction temperature were developed to realize large-scale production; several sets of standardized and integrated VOCs treatment equipment were developed, a new low-cost decentralized adsorption - centralized regeneration treatment model in China were first proposed and practiced; a standard of the emission standard - technical guidance - equipment specification process was established. The team has established a national team for VOCs governance, successfully established a technical chain from basic research, engineering application to the standard system, ranking the world’s leading place in scientific research. The team has secured 32 invention patents for relevant achievements, taken the leading role in formulating 9 standards and engaged in 2 of them, as well as won 1 China Patent Award. There are more than 300 application cases of the achievements, with a total direct economic benefit of 520 million yuan, emission reduction of 1.8475 million tons of VOCs, and serving major activities such as the G20 summit and the Asian Games.


2. Theory, technology and application of large algae ecological restoration and resource conservation


Repairing the eutrophic environment of aquaculture sea areas, conserving offshore marine biological resources and developing high-value utilization technology of large algae are key technical problems in the field of aquaculture and marine resources and environment. Based on the structural integrity and functional diversity of marine ecosystem and the goal of sustainable utilization of biological resources, this project has carried out systematic research. The main results are as follows: (1) it is found that asparagus can increase marine carbon sink, prevent and treat water eutrophication, improve dissolved oxygen, prevent marine acidification and improve the quality of sedimentary environment; (2) the evolution law of biological community in large seaweed cultivation ecosystem was revealed, and the theoretical system of asparagus cultivation ecosystem was preliminarily constructed; (3) a large-scale seaweed ecological aquaculture technology was developed, and demonstration and promotion of the utilization of large-scale seaweed resources were carried out, and a large-scale seaweed asparagus industrial chain were built. The project has apparent innovation in the biogeochemical process and carbon sink formation mechanism of large algae, the succession theory of biological community in large algae cultivation ecosystem and resource conservation technology. The project achievements are generally at the international advanced level, and have reached the international leading place in the theoretical research of large-scale algae ecological restoration.
