On the morning of September 10, 2020, on the occasion of the 36th Teacher’s Day, the School of Environment and Energy held the opening ceremony of Class 2020 and the Ceremony for the Ceremony of the Xuedilong Scholarship in the Music Hall of the University Town campus. More than 400 people attended the event, including Tao Shaojing, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of South China University of Technology, Yu Yunjiang, Deputy Director of the South China Institute of Environmental Sciences of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Ao Alumni Xiaoqiang, Chairman and General Manager of Beijing SDL Technology Co., Ltd., head of the Public Relations Office, teachers of the School of Environment and Energy

The first part of the event was the opening ceremony. First, the dean of the school, Ye Daiqi, delivered a speech and introduced the development of the school. Yu Yunjiang, the deputy director of the South China Institute of Environmental Sciences of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, introduced the development of the environmental field and made suggestions for environmental professional study. Then the representatives of teachers, students and freshmen of the school gave speeches.

The second part of the event was the awarding ceremony of 'SDL Scholarship and Teaching Award'. Tao Shaojing, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of South China University of Technology, and alumni Ao Xiaoqiang, chairman and general manager of Beijing SDL Technology Co., Ltd., presented awards to the award-winning teachers and students and took a group photo. In 2019, a total of 30 students won the 'SDL Scholarship' for 10,000 yuan each student (see the end of the article for the list); 3 teachers, namely Dang Zhi, Ye Daiqi, and Lin Zhang, received the 'SDL Scholarship' respectively for 'Achievement Award', 'National Platform Award' and 'National Talent Award', each with a bonus of 100,000 yuan.

After the group photo, alumni Ao Xiaoqiang gave a speech, recalled his youth, looked forward to the development of environmental monitoring and addressed the freshmen. Finally, Tao Shaojing, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of South China University of Technology, introduced the university’s century-old development history and advantages to all freshmen, encouraged them to come to SCUT to study diligently, and sent holiday greetings to all teachers.

Backgrounds:

In 2019, alumni Ao Xiaoqiang set up the 'SDL Scholarship and Teaching Award' in the School of Environment and Energy, with a total amount of RMB 400,000.

The total amount of the scholarship is RMB100,000. There are 10 receivers and thus it is 10,000 yuan per student. It rewards students who are excellent in comprehensive assessment, have excellent academic achievements, and actively perform outstanding performance in high-level international conferences.

Special note: In order to solve the historical issues of the Zhongtao Scholarship, the SDL Scholarship substitute for the Zhongtao Scholarship from 2019, and the special increase of 200,000 scholarships was personally raised by Professor Ye Daiqi, the dean of the school.

The total amount of the teaching award is 300,000, and 3 items are set up, which are the national achievement award, the national platform award and the national talent award. The award amount is 100,000 yuan each. The teaching award is mainly to reward teachers who have making outstanding contributions to education, scientific research, and service, or the construction of a national platform, or of national talents.
