On May 20, 2020, the 'Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Solid Waste Pollution Control and Recycling' (hereinafter referred to as 'Solid Waste Key Laboratory') kick-off meeting was held at B4-308, School of Environment and Energy, South China University of Technology (Higher Education Mega Center Campus). Director of the key laboratory (Professor Lin Zhang), deputy directors (Professor Su Xintai, Professor Zhu Nengwu, Professor Yan Keyou), member of the key laboratory and academic advisor (Professor Dang Zhi) and other members of the key laboratory in various research directions (Professor Yin Hua, Professor Deng Hong, Professor Cheng Jianhua, Professor Feng Chunhua, Professor Zhang Xiaoping, Professor Xu Jiantie, Associate Professor Li Xiaoqin, Associate Professor Liu Weizhen, Associate Professor Liu Zehua, Associate Researcher Professor Liang Yuzhen and Engineer Liu Xueming) attended the meeting.
At the meeting, Professor Lin Zhang especially reviewed the application process of the key solid waste laboratory, and expressed her gratitude to all the members and students who participated in the application and construction. Then she reported the content of laboratory construction, research direction and developmental aims to the attendees. She hope that all members of the laboratory could use this valuable platform to innovate collaboratively, and make greater contributions to improving our country's independent innovation ability and technological progress in the field of solid waste treatment and resource recycling, and make this key laboratory become first-class domestic laboratory as soon as possible
Professor Shi Zhenqing (Liang Yuzhen represented), Su Xintai, Zhu Nengwu and Yan Keyou reported their development ideas and plans in each direction. Professor Su Xintai reported the key laboratory construction plan, laboratory management model and incentive policy. Professor Dang Zhi put forward several forward-looking suggestions for the construction of key laboratory. He emphasized that the laboratory should focus on the construction goals, condense the direction, and form characteristics. Secondly, solid waste treatment should not only do a good job in the end treatment, but also do a good job in the 'source reduction'to contribute to the realization of 'waste free city'. Third, we must do a good job in solid waste 'soft science' research, and strive to serve the government's scientific decision-making. Fourth, we must strengthen the introduction of talents, especially the introduction of outstanding young talents and leading talents. In addition, Professor Yin Hua, Professor Zhu Nengwu, Professor Deng Hong, Professor Cheng Jianhua and other members actively contributed to the construction and development of the laboratory, and conducted serious discussions on future research topics.
The Key Laboratory of Solid Waste is a key laboratory approved by Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology in February 2020. At present, the laboratory is composed of 23 experts, professors and young scholars of the School. Relying on School of Environment and Energy of South China University of Technology, the laboratory is equipped with the following research directions: interaction properties of solid waste environment and resource, principle and technology of industrial solid waste reduction and harmlessness, principle and technology of organic solid waste recycling, principle and technology of consumer waste high-value reuse, solid waste resources recycling, and new energy materials development. The Key Laboratory of Solid Waste will strive to become one of the teaching, research, promotion centers for cultivating senior talents and undertaking national and local key scientific research projects in the field of solid waste treatment and recycling in Guangdong Province.
