Prof. Wan Jinquan’s team have proposed and developed a methane production and denitrification co-existing system. Via fluidization and function division in the anaerobic reactor. A separation of acidogenesis and methanogenesis was achieved, conferring long-term stable operation of the ethanol-type anaerobic fomentation process. The technology has been applied in hundreds of industrial treatment plants. From long-term full-scale verification, the technology allowed increased organic loading rate by 10-20%, elevated COD removal efficiency by 30%, and reduced operation cost by 30-50%. The technology had been received 5 prizes, including the National Science and Technology Advances Awards (second prize), the Science and Technology Advances Awards of Guangdong Province (second prize), and the Outstanding Invention Award of Guangdong Province.
