At the invitation of Professor Lin Zhang, from School of environment and energy, South China University of technology, Professor Jorge Gardea-Torresdey, associate editor of Environmental Science & technology which is a famous journal in the field of environmental science and professor from University of Texas at El Paso, visited our school from January 8th to 9th, 2020. Two academic reports were given on the afternoon of January 8th and on the morning of January 9th respectively, topics of which were “What You Should Know Before and After Submitting a Manuscript to a Scientific and Engineering Journal - An ES&T Editor’s Advice” and “From Phytoremediation to Implications and Applications of Nanotechnology in Agriculture”.
In the first report, Professor Jorge Gardea-Torresdey introduced the Impact Factors, explained the importance of h-index in one's academic career and highlighted how to write scientific papers, the considerations before and after submission, and emphasized the importance of academic ethics. Prof. had an in-depth interaction with teachers and students of our college, which benefited everyone on the spot. In the second report, Professor Jorge Gardea-Torresdey shared a lot of his team's work in the field of phytoremediation, where they, for the first time, had discovered that plants can form gold nanoparticles (NPs) from absorbed gold ions. After the reports, Professor Jorge Gardea-Torresdey held deep and extensive discussions and exchanges with the teachers and students on relevant fields.
