According to the latest ESI data released by Thomson Reuters in July 2017, our University’s Environmental Science and Ecology has entered 1% of the global ESI firstly.
The data is counted from January 1st, 2006 to June 30th , 2016.It shows that our school published a total of 464 ESI papers, being cited 3476 times in total, 7.49 times on average, the total number of citations in the first 1% of the 844 research institutions ranked No. 833 in the field of Environmental Science and Ecology nearly 10 years.
School of Environment and Energy is the backbone of disciplining our school's Environmental Science and Ecology into the global ESI 1%. The school considers entering ESI 1%, improving science level as the main goal of development, holding several measures simultaneously, strengthening the discipline construction vigorously.
Firstly, focusing on the major national needs and disciplines in the field of environment, grasping the direction of discipline development on the macro level, our school has set two secondary disciplines of the Environmental Ecology and Green Energy Chemistry and Technology, filling up the ecology short board, promoting the combination of environment and energy. Secondly, we also plan for the development of disciplines to provide forward-looking development ideas according to the actual development of scientific and rational subject development. The school formulates and implements the overall plan to enhance the level of action, implements the responsibility of party and government leading discipline construction indicators, analyzes the advantages of teachers, people should develop the discipline of each teacher's task, the discipline construction implemented. Thirdly, we promote the development of disciplines by creating good internal and external conditions. In order to improve the system, we will create a fair, just and open atmosphere in the school, and the form a good competitive mechanism. International and domestic resources have been actively sought, in order to supply discipline to external power. To set a coordination of advantages and weak disciplines, traditional and emerging disciplines and key and non-key disciplines, cultivate new growth point. Fourthly, integration of talent and allocation of resources are the strong guarantee of the discipline construction. We are focusing on the introduction of high-level talents in the field of environmental ecology and new energy, and built up the Institute of Environmental Ecology and New Energy Research Institute. We have developed the relevant system to increase the weight of high level of ESI papers by controlling the paper awards, enrollment indicators, graduation standards, student scholarship assessment and other aspects, for improving the ESI discipline ranking.
A series of measures taken by School of Environmental and Energy provided important guarantees that Environmental Science and Ecology disciplines in our university smoothly entered the 1% of the global ESI. At the same time, the academic level, the scientific research and innovation ability and the quality of personnel training of the school have been greatly improved which is highly recognized and evaluated by domestic and foreign counterparts.
ESI is a basic analytical tool for measuring scientific research performance and tracking the development trend of science launched by the World Science and Technology Information Institute (ISI), a world-renowned academic information publishing agency, based on the database of more than 10 million records of over 11000 academic journals collected by Thomson Reuters Web of Science.
ESI counts on the data of SCIE and SSCI in all the universities and scientific research institutions in the past 11 years. Aiming at 22 academic fields, the number of papers, the number of papers cited in total, the number of papers cited on average, the number of highly cited papers, hot papers and other indicators as factors, ESI measures comprehensively from all angles on the national/regional level of scientific research, scientist academic reputation, academic influence and the academic level. It has become one of the most important evaluation indicators used to evaluate the academic level of colleges and universities, academic institutions and nations/regions, and it influences widely all over the world.
