On Mar. 27, Guangdong provincial congress of Scientific and Technological Award was held in Guangzhou by Guangdong provincial Party committee and government. There were 272 projects being awarded as 2011 Guangdong Scientific and Technological Award, including 2 top grade prizes, 30 first prizes, 87 second prizes and 153 third prizes.  "The Environmental Chemsitry and Remediation Mechanism of Contaminents in Soil" and "The Safety of Using Manure in Agriculture" by Prof. Zhi Dang won the first and third prize, respectively. "New Technology and Application of Wastewater Denitrification and dephosphorization" by Prof. Shaoqi Zhou won the third prize.

This is the first time for team from SCUT Environmental Science and Engineering, leading by DANG Zhi, to apply the Scientific and Technological Award and they were awarded first prize in the field of natural science, which symbolizes the fundamental researching level. "Generally, there is only one first prize in each subject and the subject of environment is classified into chemistry which is full of competitive talents. Though I'm so confident in our project, I still feel so surprised and excited to stand out among such many competitors all over the Province. It means the public nowadays is paying more and more attention to the environmental problems." Prof. Dang told the journalist.
