The Experimental Center of the School of Design is an important component of the National Liberal Arts Comprehensive Experimental Center of the South China University of Technology. It is also a construction unit of the Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Guangdong Province Higher Education Institutions. Under the strategic guidance of the university’s goal of “building a world-class university”, it has established a comprehensive experimental teaching system and a scientific research support platform.

Seven laboratory technicians are currently involved in the Experimental Center. They are mainly responsible for teaching experimental courses to more than 900 undergraduate students (majoring in Industrial Design, Product Design, Environmental Design, Fashion and Apparel Design) and over 200 graduate students. Besides, they take charge of the experimental and practical teaching links of aesthetic education courses, elective courses and general education courses for the whole university. Meanwhile, the center provides professional experimental facilities and technical support for students’ research programs, graduation project practice, and teachers’ research projects. Relying on the experimental teaching model of “interdisciplinary coverage and multi-dimensional services”, it has become an experimental teaching platform with strong comprehensiveness in the field of design.

The Experimental Center covers a total area of over 3,000 square meters, including 25 laboratories and 2 exhibition halls. The total value of its equipment assets exceeds 7 million yuan, with more than 1,000 pieces of equipment. This equipment includes OptiTrack Motion Capture System, 3D scanners, Snapmaker 3D printers, EEG analysis systems, eye-tracking systems, RISO fully automatic screen-printing plate-making machines, VR Omnidirectional Treadmills, and so on. With its advanced equipment configuration and high-quality teaching environment, the center provides a solid foundation for high-quality experimental teaching, innovative practice, and scientific research.
