I. About the University
Located in Guangzhou, the core city of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Pan-Pearl River Delta economic zone, South China University of Technology (SCUT) is a 985 Project member and Class A institution of the “Double First-Class Initiative”. It comprises three campuses: Wu shan Campus, University Town Campus, and Guangzhou International Campus. The university's educational legacy can be traced back to the Guangdong Provincial First Class Industrial School established in 1918. Formally reorganized during the 1952 national higher education restructuring, it became one of New China's Four Major Engineering Institutes pioneering China's higher engineering education. Leading the wave of reform and innovation, the university has become a flagship institution among southern engineering universities. It consistently ranks among the top 150 in the Shanghai Ranking's Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), has increased to 187th in the US News Global University Rankings, and surged to 45th in the Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings.

Currently, 16 disciplines rank within the top 1% globally in the Essential Science Indicators (ESI), five disciplines rank within the top 0.1%, and three disciplines rank within the top 0.01%.

The School of Design was established in June 2010 through the integration of the Industrial Design program from the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering, the Art Design program from the School of Art, the Engineering Drawing teaching team, and faculty members from the School of Materials Science and Engineering. Leveraging the Greater Bay Area's abundant creative industry resources and strategic advantages in international development, the school embraces the philosophy of integrating science with art, and design with culture. It focuses on building a design education and research platform centered on creativity and sustainable development, striving to become an internationally influential hub for innovative design in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The School actively explores talent cultivation models for New Engineering and New Liberal Arts, focusing on cutting-edge New Design areas such as intelligence, safety, sustainability, and health. It cultivates exceptional designers equipped to tackle future challenges, assisting in propelling the design industry in the Greater Bay Area and globally to new heights.

To accelerate the development of the top world-class universities and disciplines, advance the talent-driven university strategy, and further elevate the overall caliber of its faculty, the School of Design at South China University of Technology is now recruiting outstanding talents from around the world based on positional needs.

II.Recruitment Areas and Requirements

(i)Recruitment Areas

Design disciplines (Industrial Design, Product Design, Environmental Design, Fashion and Apparel Design, Intelligent Interaction Design, etc.) and related fields such as Computer Science and Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Intelligent Manufacturing, and Fine Arts.

(ii)Application Requirements

Applicants must uphold the leadership of the Communist Party of China, implement the Party's educational policies, demonstrate sound ideological and political qualities, a sense of the bigger picture, and a strong sense of responsibility. They must abide by laws and regulations, adhere to professional ethics and conduct standards for educators, maintain physical and mental health, and possess a collaborative spirit.

III.Recruitment Positions and Requirements

(i)Teaching and Research Series

The university implements an internationally aligned tenure-track appointment system for teaching and research staff. We are now recruiting globally for senior and young talents in relevant disciplines.

1.Associate Professor, Tenure Track.

Candidates must hold a doctoral degree and generally possess no less than two years of research experience at domestic or international universities, research institutions, enterprises, etc., after doctoral graduation.

In addition, candidates must demonstrate innovative research concepts, a clear research direction, the ability to conduct independent research, strong development potential, and a solid research foundation.

2.Professor, Tenure Track

Candidates must hold a doctoral degree. Overseas candidates should possess at least three years of research experience abroad after doctoral graduation with outstanding academic achievements. Domestic candidates typically hold full senior professional technical positions, who must be capable of independently developing an academic direction, demonstrate strong innovation capabilities and significant academic growth potential, and have achieved landmark results recognized by peers domestically and internationally.

3. Professor, Tenured

Candidates must hold a doctoral degree. Overseas candidates should generally hold the position of Associate Professor or higher at an overseas university, or an equivalent position at an international enterprise or institution. Domestic candidates should generally hold a full senior professional technical position. 

Candidates should have been conducted original research or key technological research in their discipline, achieving significant landmark accomplishments, or made important contributions and attained significant results in serving national strategies and socioeconomic development.

*Note: For candidates with exceptionally outstanding academic achievements, requirements regarding work experience and other conditions may be appropriately relaxed on a case-by-case basis.

Compensation and benefits for the teaching and research series are as follows:

1.Generous Compensation

(1)Appointment under the public institution staffing system.

(2)Competitive compensation benchmarked against corresponding positions at top world-class universities; and compensation for high-level leading talents or outstanding young talents with exceptional achievements will be negotiated on a case-by-case basis.

(3) Relocation allowance provided, and public rental housing may be offered subject to campus availability.

*Tenure-track associate professors receive benefits equivalent to associate senior-level standards, while tenure-track professors and above receive benefits equivalent to full senior-level standards including social housing, insurance, provident fund, medical insurance, and other related benefits.

2. Research Support

(1) Tenure-track associate professors hold the academic title of Associate Professor, serve as master's or doctoral advisors, receive guaranteed graduate student quotas, and receive support for independent academic research.

(2) Tenure-track professors and above hold the academic title of Professor, serve as doctoral supervisors, receive guaranteed graduate student quotas, and receive support for recruiting postdoctoral fellows and building academic teams.

(3) Excellent research facilities and ample start-up funding are provided.

(4) Expert guidance from authoritative specialists for applying to national, provincial, and municipal-level projects.

4. Greater Bay Area Policies

(1) Eligibility for Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area personal income tax incentives: for qualified talents, the portion of personal income tax paid exceeding 15% of tax able income will receive government subsidies, which are exempt from personal income tax.

(2) Obtain the Guangdong Talent You-Yue Card to access 14 talent public services-including residency registration, children's enrollment, and social insurance-through a single online portal, to enjoy priority and convenient services in areas such as immigration, healthcare, transportation, loans, and children's education.
(3) Talents recruited to the Guangzhou International Campus may also apply for preferential treatment reserved for Guangzhou's high-level talents.

IV.Recruitment Process

(ii)The School Recruitment Committee will conduct an initial qualification review. Qualified candidates will be notified via email for an interview.
(iii)Successful interviewees who pass the departmental evaluation will be submitted for university approval according to relevant policies and procedures. Materials of unsuccessful or non-selected candidates will not be returned.
