Biography:

Yong Xu is the current Vice President and Dean of the National Academy of Excellent Engineers at South China University of Technology (SCUT). He is also a Level 2 professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Computer Science and Engineering/Future Technology. He directs the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Multimodal Big Data Intelligent Analysis and the Guangdong Engineering Technology Research Center for Big Data Analysis and Processing, and is the deputy director of the Ministry of Education Engineering Research Center of Human Body Data Perception.

He obtained his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from Nanjing University in 1993, 1996, and 1999, respectively. Since 1999, he has worked at SCUT, holding various positions including head of the Computer College department, vice dean, dean of the Software College, and executive vice dean of the Graduate School. He has been recognized as a New Century Excellent Talent by the Ministry of Education, a Teaching Master in the Guangdong Special Support Program, and is a senior member of IEEE and ACM, as well as a distinguished member of CCF. He is the leader of the Big Data and Visual Computing academic team at SCUT.

His main research interests are in artificial intelligence, big data, computational machine vision, pattern recognition, and image processing. Over the years, he has led or participated in more than 40 national and provincial-level research projects, has published over 200 research papers, and been included in the list of World's Top 2% Scientists. His honors include the Second Prize in Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Progress, the First Prize in the Guangdong Computer Society Science and Technology Award, and gold medals as the first instructor for teams at the 6th and 7th China International Internet Plus College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competitions. He has also made nearly 30 academic visits to prestigious universities in the United States, Europe, and Singapore.
