报告题目：From “Geländer” Architectures to Mechanosensitivity

报告摘要：

　　Helical chiral π-systems canbe classified by the spatial relationship between their aromatic subunits andtheir axles. The atropisomerization of (1,1’)-bi-phenyl systems stabilized byadditional alkyl bridges interlinking the 2,2’ positions, awoke our interest inthe stabilization of helically arranged π-systems. The dimensional mismatch oftwo tightly fixed oligomer chains was predicted to result in the helicalwrapping of the expanded subunit around the more compact one. And indeed, in afirst model compound, the longer benzylic ether oligomer entwined helicallyaround the oligophenyl back-bone. In the next step, all carbon “Geländer”structures consist of a para-ethanyl-phenyl subunit fixed to a para-terphenylbackbone were prepared. Sulfone bridged “Geländer” architectures not onlyprovided insight about the parameters controlling the racemization barrier, butalso gave access to all carbon model compounds consisting of OPVs wrappedaround OP axis. As alternative molecular design for a B-field sensitive helicalchiral structure, a [2.2]paracyclophane subunit was integrated into a thiophenemacrocycle. A pronounced mechanosenstitivity of the pseudo-para[2.2]paracyclophanesubunit was unraveled, which was subsequently investigated in details by asmall series of model compounds. The concept of mechanosensitive molecularstructures was expanded to porphyrin cyclophanes, and it was revealed that pseudo-meta[2.2]paracyclophaneis interesting building block for conjugate macrocycles. 

报告人简介：

　　Prof.Mayor obtained his diploma and doctoral degree from University of Berne ofSwitzerland. He then conducted his postdoc with Prof. Jean-Marie Lehn atUniversité Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg, France. After a short postdoc stay inGermany, he returned to Université Louis Pasteur for his habilitation. Hejoined University of Basel as associate professor in 2005, and promoted to fullprofessor in 2011. Since 2011, he also became an adjunct professor at SunYet-Sen University. He served as Head of the Chemistry department, and is nowthe Dean of Faculty of Natural Sciences.
