On October 16, 2023, the 49th IEEE Industrial Electronics Society Annual Conference (IECON 2023), organized by the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IEEE IES), commenced in Singapore. Chen Feng and Qin Tian, 2021 graduate students from our institute, both received the IES Students & Young Professionals Paper Assistance awards at the conference.

Chen Feng's paper, titled A spatio-temporal simulation model for electric vehicle charging demands considering user and battery behaviors, was supervised by Professor Lu Shaofeng. The paper proposed a spatio-temporal simulation model for electric vehicle (EV) charging demands, considering EV user charging behaviors and battery charging/discharging characteristics. This study offers a solution for quantifying the impact of EV user charging behaviors, ambient temperature, and traffic congestion on charging demands, aiding in the rational planning and economical operation of charging facilities.

Qin Tian's paper, titled Protection Against Over-Load and Over-Aligned Issues in LCC-S Compensated Inductive Power Transfer System, was supervised by Professor Huang Zhicong. The paper introduced a passive control method for LCC-S compensated converters using an auxiliary protection circuit. The proposed method effectively addressed challenges of overloading and over-alignment, eliminating the need for complex compensation circuits and wireless communication, and providing a simple and reliable solution. The protection strategy was experimentally validated on a 48 V wireless charging prototype, demonstrating its effectiveness in promptly protecting the primary circuit from equipment damage.

IECON 2023, the 49th annual meeting of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, focused on contemporary industrial topics, covering a wide range of fields from electronics, control, manufacturing, to communication and computational intelligence. The conference received approximately 1577 submissions, with 23 papers ultimately winning awards. Distinguished scholars such as Academician Duan Guangren, Dean of the School of Automation at the Southern University of Science and Technology, Academician Zhang Jianwei, a member of the German National Academy of Engineering, the Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Hamburg, and a professor at the University of Hamburg, and IEEE Fellow Professor Emil Levi of Liverpool John Moores University, attended the conference and delivered keynote speeches.
