To effectively carry out the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC)project application work for the year 2024 and promote both the quantity and quality of applications, the Shien-Ming Wu School of Intelligent Engineering held an experience exchange meeting on November 20-21, 2023. The meeting invited Professor Yuan Wei from the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering and Professor Tan Mingkui from the School of Software to share their experiences in grant applications with faculty and students. The meeting was chaired by Professor Xie Longhan, the vice dean of the school, and attended by Zhang Zheng, the secretary of the school's party committee.
Professor Yuan Wei, drawing from his own experiences in application and review, provided explanations on various aspects of the National Natural Science Foundation, including the foundation's positioning and orientation, psychological preparation before applying for the grant, key evaluation criteria for General Program and Young Scientists project, and important considerations in proposal writing. Subsequently, Professor Yuan Wei offered detailed solutions to address specific issues that professors may encounter during the application process.
Professor Tan Mingkui, leveraging his research experiences and project application expertise, primarily focused on the concise articulation of research background and significance, the refinement of scientific questions, and the comprehensive and logical presentation of research plans. In the end, he engaged in in-depth discussions with the attending teachers regarding relevant issues and concerns in applying for research grants.
The school will build on this experience exchange as a starting point and continue organizing sharing sessions and guidance workshops for grant applications, striving to excel in the 2024 National Natural Science Foundation project application process.
