On the morning of June 14, 2023, Dr. Qi Ge, Associate Professor from the Southern University of Science and Technology, was invited to the Shien-Ming Wu School of Intelligent Engineering to deliver an academic lecture on the topic Multimaterial 3D/4D Printing: From Hydrogels to Ceramics. The lecture was chaired by Associate Professor Zhang Yuanfang from the school.
In the presentation, Dr. Qi Ge first introduced the development and application prospects of multimaterial 3D printing technology. Subsequently, he elucidated the concept of 4D printing, and through practical examples that combine multimaterial 3D printing with the generalized variable property behavior of smart materials, he outlined the development trends of 4D printing. Dr. Ge then focused on key technologies in several categories of multimaterial additive manufacturing and 4D printing. He provided detailed insights into the applications of novel multimaterial 3D printing technology in areas such as voxelized digital material structures, multimodal sensing soft actuators, ceramic-polymer composite structures, and thick sheet origami superstructures.
Finally, Dr. Qi Ge engaged in in-depth discussions with the attending faculty and students. He patiently addressed the questions raised by the audience, creating a relaxed and enthusiastic atmosphere for exchange during the event.
