中文教学方面，学院目前可提供面向大学生的初、中两级中文课程，以及中国电影欣赏课程，并正在开发面向学校员工和社区与中学的中文、商务汉语和太极拳（剑）等新课。我们的目标是到2015年使中文专业成为大学的正式辅修专业，2018年争取建成中文本科专业。为了便于和鼓励对中国语言的学习与评估，学院正积极筹备成立汉语水平考试中心(HSK)，以服务整个周遍地区。学院还正式启动了每周一次的校园‘汉语角’，为学习中文创造良好的实践环境。学院还应邀为美国联邦政府西北贫困家庭地位提升项目开设夏季课程，以建立与美国官方项目的联系，逐步推进汉语教学进入当地普教体系。

    文化活动与交流方面，学院为大学和社区带来了高品质的中国文化表演和欣赏，比如马年春节联欢晚会、每月的‘中国电影之夜’等，所有这些活动均受到当地热烈的欢迎，观众人数也创下类似活动之最。学院还邀请了专业京剧表演艺术团前来学校演出，以庆祝中秋节和孔子学院日。

 

    The Confucius Institute at University of Idaho (UICI) was established in April 15, 2013 and in full operation since August 2013. The institute is housed within the University of Idaho’s historic Administration Building, providing the program excellent visibility. The 80 square office spaces  with a new Chinese library are modern, welcoming, and are frequently visited by senior university officials and students interested in learning more about China, its language, and culture.  The Institute currently has four fully functional people including two co-directors from University of Idaho and South China University of Technology respectively, a Chinese language instructor from China, and a full-time administrative coordinator from University of Idaho. The institute is expecting another two full-time teachers from China in Fall semester 2014. The institute is developing well and fast in both language teaching and cultural exchange programs, and has begun the process of expanding its outreach programs into the local community and other cities such as the Coeur d’Alene region and southern Idaho area. The Confucius Institute’s arrival to Idaho has been welcomed with much excitement from parents, educators, and business leaders.

    ICI is currently offering elementary and intermediate Chinese language programs, as well as a Chinese film appreciation course to University of Idaho students. The institute is also developing additional university and community and high school courses for Chinese language, Business Chinese, and Tai Ji programs. Our goal is to formally establish a Chinese minor by year of 2015 and a Chinese major in 2018. In order to facilitate the regional demand for Chinese language learning and evaluation, development of an HSK testing center, an authoritative Chinese language testing facility sponsored by Hanban (Confucius Institute Headquarters), at the University of Idaho is underway, which will serve the surrounding region. A Chinese Language Table has also been initiated by UICI for the first time in the university to provide Chinese language practicing environments to those who are studying or have studied Chinese. UICI has also been invited to offer Chinese Language Summer courses for U.S. federally funded Northwest Nations Upward Bound Program as part of the efforts to establish relationship with the Government for introducing Chinese language teaching into the general education system.

    UICI’s arrival also brings top quality Chinese cultural performances, such as Chinese New Year of Horse Gala, the monthly Chinese Movie Night, and a professional Beijing opera performing troupe has been invited to University of Idaho for Mid-Autumn Festival and Confucius Institute Day. All these are welcomed with enthusiasm and attended by the historically largest audiences.
