    Dr. Zhi-Yuan Li

    Personal profile

    Li Zhiyuan, a professor and doctoral supervisor, was born in May 1972 in Zhangpu County, Fujian. He graduated from the Department of Physics, University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 1994 and obtained his PhD from the Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 1999, receiving the President's Special Award. His doctoral dissertation was awarded the National Hundred Excellent Doctoral Dissertations in 2001. From 1999 to 2003, he conducted research at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the University of Washington, and the Ames Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy. In January 2004, he was selected into the Hundred Talents Program of CAS and received Selective Support, with an excellent final evaluation in 2008. In 2005, he was supported by the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and in 2011, he was awarded the Wang Dahang Optical Award by the Chinese Optical Society. From 2014 to 2016, he served as a researcher at the Institute of Physics, CAS, as the leader of Group L01, and as an adjunct professor in the Department of Physics, USTC. Since October 2016, he has been a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Physics and Optoelectronics, South China University of Technology, and the director of the Laboratory of Artificial Light and Acoustic Microstructures Physics. He is a Co-Editor of EPL and serves on the editorial boards of Acta Optica Sinica, Chinese Science Bulletin, and Advanced Optical Materials. In 2014, he was selected as a Thomson Reuters Highly Cited Researcher, and in 2016, he was selected as an Elsevier Highly Cited Researcher in China.

    Research directions

    Theoretical, computational, experimental, and applied research in photonic crystals, nanophotonics, surface plasmon optics, nonlinear optics, quantum optics, laser technology, and fundamental quantum physics.
