Biography:
Dr. Li Yan is a Deputy Editor of Matter—the flagship journal of materials science—and Matter&Light at Cell Press. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Tianjin University and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Tsinghua University. He subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Houston and Wageningen University respectively. Prior to joining Cell Press, he accumulated years of experience as a journal editor at Wiley Publishing.
Matter is a flagship journal in materials science launched by Cell Press in 2019. It covers a broad spectrum of cutting-edge research directions, including biomaterials, energy materials, and optoelectronic materials. As a sister journal of Cell, Joule and Chem, Matter prioritizes conceptual innovation in materials research and enjoys significant academic influence in the materials science community. According to the latest data released in 2025, the journal has a two-year impact factor of 17.5.
Matter&Light is a new journal under the Cell Press, dedicated to publishing frontier research on the interaction between light and materials science. Its scope spans multiple optoelectronic materials-related fields, ranging from fundamental physics, chemistry, and nanotechnology to engineering applications. To ensure the journal remains at the forefront of materials science and provides high-quality services to authors, Matter&Light is managed by the same editorial team as Matter.
