Recently, the biennial conference of theAsian Pacific Academy of Materials (APAM) was held in Guilin, China. MaYuguang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Director ofthe State Key Laboratory of Luminescent Materials and Devices at South ChinaUniversity of Technology, was successfully elected as an APAM Academician.

It is reported that the election criteriafor APAM Academicians emphasize disruptive innovations achieved in basicresearch, applied research, or industrialization. This year, the conferenceelected 35 new Academicians and 3 Associate Academicians, including 8 frommainland China.

Academician Ma Yuguang has long beenengaged in the basic and applied research of organic polymer optoelectronicfunctional materials. Focusing on the structure (chemical, aggregatedstate, electronic) - property (luminescence, laser, carrier mobility)relationships of organic polymer functional material systems, he hasdeveloped a variety of new concept material systems, new insights into photophysicalprocesses, and new methods for polymer synthesis.His academic achievements have been widelyrecognized: he has won one Second-Class National Natural Science Award and oneFirst-Class Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education; led the InnovativeResearch Group Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China(NSFC) in 2016; received the National Innovation and Excellence Certificate in2023; and served as the Chief Scientist of the Excellent Center for BasicResearch on Energy and Information Polymer Materials in Guangdong HigherEducation Institutions since 2023.
