Abstract:

In this lecture, we will introduce two new concepts in the field of metal hydrides: enthalpy entropy compensation and Arrhenius behavior of incubation time.

The second part of this lecture will discuss the first hydrogenation of metal hydrides, which typically requires a longer incubation time. The empirical method to solve this problem is to perform the first hydrogenation under high temperature and pressure, and to cycle the hydride multiple times.Through a systematic study of the effects of temperature and pressure on the incubation time of LaNi5, we found that this process follows the Arrhenius law and the relationship between activation energy and pre exponential factor with pressure. We believe that these new knowledge will greatly contribute to a better fundamental understanding of first hydrogenation.

Brief introduction of reporter

Professor Jacques Huot's research area is the understanding and characterization of metal hydrogen interactions, particularly metal hydrides. Professor Huot is also interested in synthesizing new low-cost metal hydrides with hydrogen storage properties suitable for industrial conditions. He is studying the hydrogen storage characteristics of nanomaterials and materials that have undergone severe plastic deformation. Another aspect of his research is hydrogen diffusion and its impact on the chemical and physical properties of metal coatings. His goal is to fundamentally understand the impact of changes in composition or crystal structure on hydrogen storage performance. Professor Huot has solid professional knowledge in the field of material characterization, especially in the use of neutrons and synchrotron radiation. Professor Huot currently serves as the editor of the Journal of Alloys and Compounds and an executive committee member of the MH2024 International Society of Metal Hydrogen.
