Abstract:
Interactions between light and matter can be engineered to control the behaviour of single photons and ensembles of photons. Such investigations also allow a better understanding of the boarder between the quantum and classical worlds. Notably, the quantum properties of photons are more and more used to achieve fully secure communications, and offer remarkable perspectives in this direction.
We will present recent results obtained in Laboratoire Kastler Brossel (UPMC, ENS, CNRS) in Paris using material systems such as laser-cooled atomic ensembles or semi-conductors to generate quantum states of light and also to store and retrieve them without destroying them.
