Introduction to the Speaker:

Huipin Yuan Ph.D, Professor at University of Twente (The Netherlands) and Sichuan University (China), R&D director at Xpand Biotechnology BV (The Netherlands), co-founder of Xpand Biotechnology BV, Progentix Orthobiology BV and Revisions BV.

Dr. Huipin Yuan received his B.Sc. in Physiology/Biophysics (1989) and M.Sc in Physiology (1992) from Peking University, China, and Ph. D in Biomedicine from Leiden University, The Netherlands (2001).

He joined in IsoTis SA (a Tissue Engineering Company), The Netherlands as Junior Research Scientist (a post-doctor position) in 2001, and was promoted to a Research Scientist one year later (2002) and as a Senior Scientist one and half year later (2002). He co-founded Xpand Biotechnology BV in 2004, Progentix Orthobiology BV and Revesios BV in 2009.

He is one of the pioneers of instructive materials. His invention on physicochemical control of bone regeneration is patented globally. Several of his products have been cleared by CE in Europe and by FDA in US. Among them a novel resorbable osteoinductive calcium phosphate ceramic is comparable to rhBMP-2 product and autologous bone (the golden bone substitute)，resulting a business deal in 2009 ($85 million).

Next to business development, Dr. Huipin Yuan is active in scientific researches. He created an international research platform and got more than 50 peer-reviewed scientific publications (e.g PNAS, IF 9.6; Journal of Clinical Investigation， IF 15.3 and Biomaterials, IF 8.3) and gave invited lectures in international conferences. His achievements are well accepted and his work is often cited (the total citation is over 2000). He is the second owner of a Chinese National Natural Science Prize (the second class).

With his lecture of “Physicochemical Control of Tissue Regeneration”, Dr. Huipin Yuan will share with you his 20-year experience on business development and scientific researches.
