A team of students from the School of Civil Engineering and Transportation at South China University of Technology (SCUT) clinched the special top prize at the 18th Challenge Cup Guangdong College Students' Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition, which concluded at Zhaoqing University from May 16 to 19, 2025. The award-winning project, titled Seamless Ocean Energy Integration for an Intelligent Electric Future: An Integrated Offshore Wind, Solar, and Wave Power Generation System, stood out among thousands of outstanding entries from across the province. The project was mentored by Professor Zhou Binzhen and Associate Professor Jin Peng from SCUT.

The SCUT team's project addresses the national strategies of building China into a maritime power and achieving the dual carbon goals. By comprehensively developing offshore wind, solar, and wave energy, the system leverages multi-energy complementation and staggered peak-valley characteristics to tackle key challenges such as high volatility and costs associated with single-source power generation, thereby enhancing energy output per unit sea area.
