Guangdong and Macao Concrete Dreams Building the Greater Bay Area -- South China University of Technology Organizes the Second Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area "Future Star" Training Camp

Recently, South China University of Technology (SCUT) and University of Macau (UM) successfully organized the second Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area Future Star Training Camp in Guangzhou. Through academic exchanges, enterprise visits and cultural experiences, the joint exchange group of teachers and students from SCUT and UM organized the camp with 5C tours. Through the 5C tours - China, Civil Engineering, Career, Canton and Culture - the group aims to build an academic and cultural exchange platform between Guangdong and Macau universities, cultivate patriotism among teachers and students of the two places, and deepen exchanges among university students in the Greater Bay Area.

At the opening ceremony of the camp, Wang Lei, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Civil Engineering and Transportation (SCET), Hu Nan, Vice President of SCET, Hu Chichun, Director of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Joint Laboratory of Transportation Infrastructure Innovation, Luk Man Hoi, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Macau, Wen Riming, Senior Lecturer, and Pan Fori, Assistant Professor, and other guests launched the event, which was attended by the joint exchange group of UM and SCUT.

 

Journey of Homeland Sentiment (China)

During the trip of national sentiment, the exchange group of UM teachers and students visited SCUT's “Beginner's Mind” School History Museum, and visited the Zhongshan statue, the Hundred Steps staircase, the sundial and other red cultural attractions of the campus, and gained an in-depth understanding of the origins of the University's schooling can be traced back to the establishment of the First A-industrial School of Guangdong Province (“Red A-industrial”) in 1918, and the significant contributions made by this university to the modern revolution, economic and social development in South China.

 

Visit to the Memorial Hall of the Third National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the University History Museum, and the historical sites of the campus

Professional study tour (Civil Engineering)

During the professional study tour, the exchange group of teachers and students from the UM entered the State Key Laboratory of Subtropical Building Science of SCUT, visited the Structural Engineering Laboratory, Earthquake-resistant Laboratory, Structural Fire Testing Laboratory, College Student Entrepreneurship and Innovation Base, 3D Printing Creative Center and BIM Center of the SCET, and teachers and students from the two schools had in-depth professional exchanges and discussions.

 

Visit to the State Key Laboratory of Subtropical Building Science of SCUT

 

The exchange group of teachers and students from UM visited the Guangzhou Nansha Culture and Sports Complex project constructed by China Construction Third Bureau (CSCB). The project is a key construction project in Guangzhou, with the design theme of “Fan Welcomes World Visitors, Pearl Shines in Kyushu”. The stadium is inspired by the Chinese ritual of “fan”, and the roof unfolds like a fan, which is not only rhythmic and beautiful, but also realizes a good ventilation and lighting effect. The stadium is inspired by the Chinese ritual “fan”. In addition, the venues are built by the sea, integrating traditional Lingnan architectural elements and modern architectural techniques, presenting a unique artistic aesthetic. Baidu Apollo Park is an intelligent network ecological base centered on “Vehicle-Road-Cloud-Diagram” for future large-scale testing of autonomous driving and vehicle-road collaboration applications. The UM student and faculty exchange group went to Baidu Apollo Park in Guangzhou to learn about the cutting-edge technology and development trend of autonomous driving and artificial intelligence, to experience AI technology, to have a first-hand experience of the radish fast-running autonomous driving, and to feel the technological charm of driving to the “no man's land”! Here, the students witnessed the outstanding achievements of mainland enterprises in the field of artificial intelligence technology, felt proud of the “Chinese wisdom” and “Chinese power” of the new quality productivity of AI, and strengthened their confidence in actively integrating into the overall situation of the country's development.

City Experience Tour (Canton)

During the city experience tour, the exchange group of teachers and students from UM came to the Bai'etan GBA Art Center, which integrates the Guangdong Museum of Art, the Guangdong Intangible Cultural Heritage Museum and the Guangdong Cultural Center. Looking down from a high place, the three museums are connected as a whole, with different heights and levels, and from the river bank to the back, the buildings gradually go up from low to high, stacking up, from a distance, it looks like a giant ship out of the sea, which means “Lingnan culture rides on the wind and breaks the waves, spreading to the four seas”. This new landmark in Southern Guangdong with rich cultural intention and elegant artistic taste is designed by the team of famous architect He Jingtang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and adopts modern architectural language to express the design concepts of “giant wheel of culture, flying rainbow of Goose Pond, and art of cloud and mountain” in an abstract and pictorial way. The exquisite architectural and digital technology empowers teachers and students to experience the charm of Lingnan culture in an immersive environment.

The exchange group of teachers and students from UM entered the International Campus of SCUT, and they were deeply impressed by the architectural design style of the International Campus, which is a combination of East and West, liberal arts, tradition and modernity, and science and humanities. Teachers and students from UM also participated in the “Reading for Life & nbsp; Book Fragrance Concrete Academy” reading salon hosted by the Graduate Student Association of the University of Macau, where both sides shared books or films with positive life-enlightening significance and carried out the “Journey of Trust”, The two sides shared books and films that inspire positive life lessons, and carried out interactive group activities such as “Journey of Trust”, “Bravely Saying No” and “Mind Painting”. These activities effectively strengthened the communication and interaction between teachers and students of the two schools and promoted mutual understanding.

At the closing ceremony, students from the two universities had in-depth exchanges on disciplinary competitions, campus cultural activities and Shuyuan activities. It is reported that Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area “Future Star” Training Camp is a university student program funded by the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of the Ministry of Education for the exchange of teachers and students from universities, secondary schools and elementary school in the Mainland, Hong Kong and Macao. The first camp was held in 2023, co-directed by the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of South China University of Technology and the Youth League Committee of South China University of Technology, and organized by the School of Civil Engineering and Transportation of South China University of Technology.
