The 11th National Competition of Transport Science and Technology for Undergraduate Students was held in Central South University Railway Campus on May 21-22. School of Civil Engineering and Transportation in South China University of Technology has provided two sets of outstanding entries which are “Guangzhou Metro traffic congestion degree real-time forecast and release based on big-data” and “Customized Internet plus product matching platform based on spare capacity vehicle scheduling optimization”. They were awarded the second prize and the third prize respectively.

The entry “Guangzhou Metro traffic congestion degree real-time forecast and release based on big-data” was supervised by associate professor Hu YuCong and lecturer Zheng YaJing, completed by the students Wang YuYan, Li HaiXin, Zhang DongRan, Xu YaoZhao, Shi Xin. The group finished the data collection of Guangzhou Metro AFC system, established the metro passenger flow prediction model by video real-time identification, and developed the APP called “Palm Subway” which could release the subway line real-time congestion level.
The entry “Customized Internet plus product matching platform based on spare capacity vehicle scheduling optimization” was supervised by lecturer Gong JuFeng and associate professor Lin PeiQun, completed by the students Li ChongYi，Shi ZhaoJun, He Xuan, Feng XiMeng. The works aimed at determining the spare capacity of route and time, and customize the capacity and freight demand to achieve online fight match. It may solve the problems of the high empty loading rate and piece goods shipping industry of high cost.

National Competition of Transport Science and Technology for Undergraduate Students is the highest level of the national traffic field student extracurricular work competition which is supported by ministry of education of higher school teaching steering committee and traffic engineering teaching guidance committee. This competition had received 301 pieces of excellent works of 104 colleges and universities. Finally, a total of 80 pieces entered to the final question-and-answer session through expert review. The School of Civil Engineering and Transportation in South China University of Technology have achieved great success many times, especially won the first prize in the tenth competition once.
