Successful appraisal meeting on graduate program of mechanics discipline

The appraisal meeting on the graduate program of mechanics discipline in the South China University of Technology (SCUT) was held successfully at the School of Civil Engineering and Transportation on the morning of 9 January, 2016. The appraisal committee consists of senior professors in area of mechanics and experts from Education Ministry of China, including Prof. Fang Daining (vice president of Beijing Institute of Technology, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences), Prof. Wang Qingyuan (president of Chengdu University), Prof. Kang Yilang (Tianjin University), Prof. Lu Fangyun (National University of Defense Technology), Prof. Ma Hongwei (Dean of academic administration of Jinan University), and Prof. Wang Zhenqing (Dean of College of Aerospace and Civil Engineering of Harbin Engineering University). 21 SCUT Staffs of the School of Civil Engineering and Transportation, including Prof. Su Cheng (Dean) and Prof. Yao Xiaohu (Head of Department of Engineering Mechanics), attended the meeting.

The procedure of the meeting: Prof. Su Cheng, on behalf of the school, welcomed the attendants, and introduced the requirements and criteria of the appraisal. Prof. Yao Xiaohu reports the graduate program of mechanics discipline and its performance in recent years, including the basic situation of the mechanics discipline at SCUT, distinguishing characteristics of training schedule, and details of graduate program. According to the source of students, the graduate program is categorized as five parts: successive bachelor-doctor program, successive bachelor-master program, academic doctor program, successive master-doctor program, academic master program. Afterwards, experts and attendants had a discussion about the issues of the program making, and gave some insight suggestions.

At the end, Prof. Su Cheng summed up the meeting, acknowledged the contribution of the experts and attendants, and delivered his attention to the amendment of the graduate program, according to the comments and suggestions from the experts.
