On December 7th, the sub-forum of “Excellent Young Scholars at Home and Abroad Forum” of South China University of Technology was held in 604 academic report hall of school of civil engineering and transportation. The sub-forum invited professor Zhang Xiaoning, the obtainer of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and Dr. Cai Minguang the associate researcher of Taiwan “Central University” to give academic reports. The persons in charge of school of civil engineering and transportation and teachers and students of related majors came to participate in this forum.

Professor Zhang Xiaoning was giving the report
Aiming at the increasing serious parking problem in urban downtown districts, Zhang Xiaoning gave a report named “the effect of parking ticket in urban traffic management”. He calculated the car trips and transit trips of each OD (the origin and destination) under the conditions of user equilibrium by the convex programming algorithm and obtained the optimal car trips. In addition, principles of the distribution, trade, deal and optimal supply are presented. Research results can provide certain values for reference.

Dr. Cai Minguang was giving the report
According to the fact that visual inspection has the shortcomings of low efficiency in detecting bridge components and the reality that certain positions cannot be close to. Dr. Cai Minguang gave a report named “Measures for improving the efficiency of visual inspection of bridge components”. He introduced the technology using automatic cruise unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to detect the damages of bridge members. In this technology, combined with geographic information system (GIS), the UAV was used to take pictures and videos of the bridge damages automatically according to the set of cruise path, and the computer modeling techniques were used to construct the three-dimensional (3D) model of bridge by the collected digital image data. Accordingly, the experienced bridge inspection personnel can locate and view the high damage site of examined bridge conveniently and quickly.
After the reports, teachers and students communicated with the reporters about interested questions and the atmosphere was very lively. Zhang Xiaoning shared his experience about how to overcome the difficulties in English study and how to choose the future way of life and obtain the success of academy.
It is reported that the “Excellent Young Scholars at Home and Abroad Forum” of South China University of Technology aims to invite excellent young scholars to discuss and exchange on both the international science research frontier and the hot fields and key technical problems of industrial. It is expected that each other can be inspired, and horizons can be broaden, and international exchange and cooperation can be promoted.
