Internationalization is one of the key directions for the School of Biology and Biological Engineering development. Relying on the platform of the International Cooperation with the Joint Laboratory of Synthetic Biology and Biopharmaceuticals of the Ministry of Education, the School has been continuously improving the level of internationalization by actively establishing ties with world-class universities, research institutions, and famous enterprises in the areas of talent training, scientific research, and social services, etc., In particular, the School has increased international exchanges in talent training and sponsored exchanged students to study abroad at the University of Manchester, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, etc. In addition, the School invests about 300000 RMB annually to sponsor students to participate in the International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition (iGEM) in the U.S. Since 2014, students from the School have achieved three gold, three silver, and two bronze medals in the competition, which has won the honor for the university. Furthermore, the iGEM-SCUT team, composed of iGEM participants and preparatory members from the Communist Youth League, was awarded the title of Powerfully Successful Work Team from National Universities.
