报告人简介：
康从宝教授现担任新加坡科技研究局首席科学家，新加坡国家实验药物开发中心结构生物学部主任、FBDD药物研发中心负责人、博士生导师。2009年获新加坡科研局A*STAR Investigatorship称号和资助。担任Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences和Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology杂志副主编、Scientific Reports杂志编委及Molecules栏目编辑。担任多个国家基金如丹麦诺和诺德基金、法国国家健康与医学研究院、瑞士国家科学基金会、新加坡国家研究基金会和新加坡科研局项目评审专家。培养出多名优秀科学家，包括中国国家高层次引进人才及在美国迈阿密大学、新加坡南洋理工大学、印度和韩国等知名高校任教的教授。
康从宝教授主要从事抗传染病和抗癌症新药的研发。在小分子和多肽类药物开发、蛋白质结构、膜蛋白结构与折叠、钾离子通道结构与调控、病毒与宿主的相互作用及化学生物学等领域均取得了创新性的研究成果。重点研发新型药物作用于酶、蛋白质复合物、受体和RNA等，成功研发的蛋白酶抑制剂和激酶抑制剂分别被国际著名药企收购。在热带病毒如登革热和寨卡病毒蛋白酶的结构与调控研究中取得了国际领先的成就。在Science、Nature communications、Science Advances、Angewandte Chemie等国际知名期刊发表论文137篇。开发了嵌合小分子体外检测及设计技术，创建了Ligature Therapeutic 公司，成功获得了600万美金的起动资金支持。
报告摘要：
Basic research and clinical applications are two interconnected areas while innovations and many other factors are required to bridge the gap between these two important areas. Drug discovery and development involves multiple steps such as identifying potential drug targets, developing assays in screening and refining drug candidates to achieve safety and efficacy in human being. In this presentation, the role of drug discovery and development in bridging basic research and clinical applications is introduced. Methods and strategies such as high throughput screening and fragment-based drug design used in drug discovery are presented. The parameters/factors crucial in developing peptidic inhibitors of viral protease will be introduced. Based on the structural investigation and drug discovery of inhibitors of proteases from flaviviruses such as dengue and Zika viruses, the roles of basic research such as structures of the targets, sensitivity of the assays in drug discovery and development are illustrated. In addition, the collaboration between academia and pharmaceutical companies is crucial in drug discovery and development.
