2008年1月，华南理工大学－ 加州大学伯克利分校（UC Berkeley）联合设计“大墩村”工作坊（ Dadun Workshop, Foshan, 2008）在广州和佛山两地举行。来自UC Berkeley环境设计学院的Peter Bosselmann教授、Matt Kondolf教授和十名学生与来自华南理工大学建筑学院的五位教师（田银生教授、郭谦教授、鲍戈平、冯江、张智敏、刘明欣）和来自建筑历史与理论、城市规划、建筑设计及其理论、景观建筑学的32名学生一起参加了本次工作坊 。工作坊以位于佛山新中心城区中的传统水乡大墩村为研究对象，探讨了传统村落如何应对未来的城市中心区发展，工作坊期间举行了多次讲座，在经过现场踏勘和历史形态研究之后，还与村民、佛山市政府官员进行了多次会谈，最后形成了五个不同的对策，并向大墩村民和当地政府进行介绍，作为研究成果纳入了佛山新城区的控制性详细规划修编。

    受加州伯克利大学环境设计学院的邀请，2008年9月8日～10月7日，我院4名教师（谢纯、汤黎明、鲍戈平、张智敏）和12名学生赴美国进行为期29天的联合设计和访问活动，设计主题：未来大都会景观（the Future Metropolitan Landscape）。本次工作坊的主要内容包括中美双方学校在城市设计方面的讲座和交流，参加加州伯克利大学城市设计专业的研究生课程，以及考察和研究伯克利大学所在湾区的都市景观的特点及发展方向，并完成成果汇报。

 

 

THE WORKSHOP OF BERKELEY & SCUT:the Future Metropolitan Landscape

The day before yesterday, I had a visit to the Culture Center in Shenzhen designed by Arata Isozaki, which is a very successful building. However, I was more interested in the landscape outside the building. There is a great scale square there, I like some design details but was more and more confused with the city landscape, because I can see the similar landscape all over the country. So how to have a regional landscape in China and what we can do in the structure of the various landscapes, this is my question.

Last time, we had a workshop in Dadun, we tried to recover the traditional water landscape in the village and provide the best public space to the residents, we analyzed the social reasons, explored the ecological ways and base on the village pattern. This is a good way for reconstruction between the landscape and the culture.

But it is different from the city. I know that San Francisco Bay is located on the west coast of American, this area have developed industry and several largest city like San Francisco and Oakland, and also have the beautiful seashore landscape and traditional agriculture system, besides, here have the Stanford University , U.C Berkeley and Silicon Valley. So the workshop this summer choose San Francisco Bay as the workplace, I think that two aspects are most important: firstly, we can find the structure of the various landscapes that make up the San Francisco Bay area, and the landscape here combined both the urban landscape and the country landscape, the natural and agricultural landscape not only contributes to the economy developing, but also provides the excellent environment for the people to live here. And secondly, we can learn the connection between the design and the form from these sampling of landscape, it will be helpful for me to understand the meaning of landscape better.

So I will do my best to prepare for the workshop these months, and I wish I can find my answer at the beginning about the future of landscape in China in San Francisco Bay this summer. I really appreciated for this chance.
