After 15 years of development, the SPE has formed the academic system consisting of undergraduate, full-time academic master and professional degree master programs. We recruit undergraduates in sports training and masters in Physical Education (Academic) and physical education teaching (professional degree).
Undergraduate programs in sports training
Objectives: We aim to cultivate individuals with all-round development of morality,intelligence and physique, to meet the needs of the country’s economy and society. Specifically, we prepare students with sports literacy and spirit, theoretical foundations for sports training, teaching, and competition. Our graduates are equipped with high levels of athletic skills and capabilities of practical application and innovation, competent for all-level physical education teaching, sports training and competition, sports management, and other jobs in the sports industry. All graduates have the qualification certificate of national second-class athletes or above. The undergraduate program in sports training is 4 years, and the graduates are awarded a bachelor's degree in education.
Core curriculum: Sports Anatomy, sports physiology, sports psychology, sports biomechanics, sports training, motor learning and control, research methods, major sport pedagogy, minor sport pedagogy, etc. Students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities in teaching and society service throughout their study, therefore, capable to organize large sport events.
Features of the undergraduate program
The program emphasizes on sports training theories and practice with a focus on popular sports such as badminton, tennis, soccer and volleyball etc.Taking advantages of resources in SCUT, we have implemented interdisciplinary and international cooperation in our curriculum, with a purpose of training sports professionals with comprehensive competence.
1.Highlighting major sport, strengthen minor sport. Build on fundamental skill development, with a special focus on training of the major sport,as well as improving skills in the minors.
2.Small and refined, personalized. We adopt elite education, which highlights both theory and practice learning, with emphasis on character building, creativity and entrepreneurial practice.
3.Interdisciplinary and international. With optimized utilization of the multi-disciplinary and international resources provided by SCUT, we expand the educational opportunities for our students.
Graduate Programs
The SPE holds a master's degree program in the first level discipline of physical education, recruiting master's degree students in Physical Education (three-year academic type) and master's degree students in Physical Education (two-year full-time academic system in the field of physical education teaching).
Physical Education (three-year academic type)
Objectives: We aim to prepare high-level sport professionals with all-round development of morality, intelligence and physique, with refined skills in sports and research, who are creative and actively engaged in international communication, ultimately ready to contribute to the area of physical education and sport training, sport management and health promotion. Some of our graduates have the qualification certificate of national second-class athletes.
Core curriculum: research methods in social science, principles of management, teaching theories in physical education, sports industry, physical training and rehabilitation, sports psychology, scientific training theory, etc. In addition, students are asked to actively engage in relevant research projects and society service.

Objectives: In order to meet the needs of school physical education and provide quality physical education teachers, we aim to prepare high-level sport practitioners and problem solvers with good academic ethics, systematic knowledge and professional skills independently.
Core curriculum: teaching theories in physical education, assessment and evaluation of physical fitness, curriculum and instruction in physical education, sports psychology, theory and practice in fitness training, professional field experience, etc.

Career prospects for the graduates
The SPE pays high attention to the graduates’ career prospects through policy support and career training by means of communicating, updating information,identifying prospective jobs, refine fieldwork experience. Every effort has been devoted to improve the employment mechanism, help students establish proper career outlook and secure employment.
The SPE graduates are equipped with high-levels of sports skill, solid professional theoretical knowledge and strong innovation and practice ability. Except for a small number of students who start their own businesses after graduation, most of them take jobs in universities or schools, state organs, sports industry, and related enterprises or institutions to engage in sports-related career, receiving high evaluations from their employers.
