The construction of Green Manufacturing Engineering Research Center of Energy-saving and New-energy in Guangdong Province was approved by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, and based on the requirements of the 12th Five-Year Plan and the Pearl River Delta Reform and Development Plan (2008-2020). This center mainly studies the green manufacturing technology, especially the optoelectronic manufacturing and its automation equipment, and other fields in view of the energy crisis and environmental pollution faced by Guangdong Province.

The center takes the key issues that the LED light source faces during its development as the research subject, and focuses on solving the packaging design and manufacturing problems of the LED and other optoelectronics areas. It designs and plans for the photovoltaic automation equipment production lines of the high-power LED packaging process combining with the research results of the optical, semiconductor technology, and other areas around the efficient low-cost micro-machining of the LED chip strengthening the light structure, the thermal functional extreme manufacturing technology in the photoelectric field and other key manufacturing processes. This center achieved technological breakthroughs in the energy-saving environmental protection, the efficient use of new energy and other key areas. It formed the technology and standards with independent intellectual property rights to promote the overall level of Guangdong Province to reach the international advanced ranks and accelerate the economic and social transformation and development of Guangdong Province.

The center has a strong scientific research strength in the field of optoelectronics and yields significant theoretical research results. In the field of the advanced manufacturing of light function, the research project “The high power LED with new substrate and its application” won the second prize of Guangdong Science and Technology Award in 2011. In the field of thermal functional extreme manufacturing technology for photoelectric field, the project “The morphology design of the complex surface thermal function structure and key technology of controllable manufacturing” won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2016. “A fine trench tube multi-level drawing manufacturing method” won the 2013 China Excellent Patent Award (the first complete and the first complete unit). The center published 84 papers (including 8 papers in the top journal with impact factor higher than 4 and 42 papers included in SCI) in the relevant field. Among them, one paper was named “The most influential international academic papers in China” in 2010, and was included in the high cited database “Essential Science Indicators” (ESI) in the United States. This center has applied for 180 patents, of which 121 patents has been authorized, including 1 PCT patent, 46 invention patents and 75 utility model.

In the past five years, the project team has undertaken 174 scientific research projects, including 30 national projects and three national fund key projects including “Design and manufacturing of the efficient light structure for LED light source”, The totle research funding is 52.53 million yuan and 100% of the research funding is applied to the research and development of projects. In the field of optical functional structure manufacturing, the center maintains a long-term close cooperation relations with Foshan Nation Star Optoelectronics Co., Ltd., Guangzhou Hongli Optoelectronics Co., Ltd., Guangdong Sanxiong Aurora Lighting Co., Ltd. and Foshan Electric Lighting Co., Ltd. Foshan Nation Star Electronics Co., Ltd. is the largest photoelectric device manufacturing enterprise in our country and the first listed enterprise who manages LED packaging products on the main board. At present, the two sides are working together to study the design and manufacturing of “The efficient light structure of LED”. The direct result of the implementation of the center project is expected to exceed 20 billion yuan.

The research team in the center consists of 21 full-time staff, including 9 professors, 1 professor level senior engineer and 7 associate professors. 18 people have the doctoral degree, accounting for 85.7%. Nearly 60% of the staff have the foreign study or work experience with an expert enjoys the special allowance of the State Council.The national and provincial training objects of thousands of ten project training object in Guangdong Province are each 1 person, and 1 people occupies the Ministry of Education new talent. The vast majority of the members have the experience of presiding research projects, and maintain long-term and good cooperation relation with the related enterprises.
