On January 9, the launching ceremony of the Sino-Australia College, a joint international initiative by SCUT and the University of Western Australia (UWA), was held at the SCUT University Town Campus.
SCUT Vice President Zhu Min, UWA Pro Vice-Chancellor Iain Watt, and Australian Consul-General in Guangzhou Dominic Trindade unveiled the plaque for the new college, with heads of relative SCUT divisions and schools attending the ceremony.
In Zhu Min’s speech, he praised that the establishment of the Sino-Australia College is a significant milestone in deepening the partnership between the two universities. He also expected the joint effort to be a vital step to explore innovative collaborative patterns, which will facilitate the two sides to complement one another and to promote the training of internationalized talents in engineering disciplines at SCUT.
Iain Watt appreciated the fast development of the cooperation between the two universities, and gave his anticipation on the platform created by the Sino-Australia College to strike more sparks on scientific research and talent training.
Dominic Trindade expressed his congratulation to the establishment of the Sino-Australia College and his confidence in the prospects of the two sides working together in the future. He believed that the two faculties will make full use of the platform to further scientific research cooperation.
The Sino-Australia College will integrate and optimize international resources to break boundaries of schools and disciplines. It will increase the scope of international joint training programs like the 3+2 combined bachelor’s/master’s programs in engineering disciplines, covering software, environment and electrical engineering.
