Sensing intelligent China: overseas students tour industries in GD

From October 22 to 23, the 2016 Experiencing China, a social practice activity for the international recipients of the Chinese Government Scholarships to have a better understanding of the industries in China, was held in Guangdong province.

The event was organized by the China Scholarship Council (CSC) and hosted by SCUT. It involved the participation of nearly 90 international students from five universities including SCUT, Sun Yat-sen University, Southern Medical University, South China Agricultural University and Guangdong University of Foreign Studies.

In a two-day tour, the students visited some of the China’s most well-known high-tech industries located or headquartered in Guangdong Province to get an insight of the country’s advancements in economic and technology.

Their stops included Guangzhou SALIAI Stemcell Science and Technology, a SCUT alumni enterprise and a leading initiative in developing stemcell technologies, and then ZTE Corporation, a multinational telecommunications equipment and systems company, followed by Shenzhen Museum and the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant.

AT ZTE, the students had a tour on the evolution of communication devices, the developments of smart homes and new energy materials, as they were experiencing the efficient business management system, the exquisite manufacturing techniques and the rich corporate culture in ZTE.

“We were wondering how in barely few years, networks technology has dramatically penetrated into every area of society. It was a informative and inspiring visit to this company,” said Ghulam Arbi, a Pakistani student studies at SCUT.

At Shenzhen Museum, following the exhibits and the interpreter’s introduction, the students learned that how Shenzhen has completed the transformation miracle of 30 years from a fishing village to a metropolitan that leads in economy and cutting edge technologies.

Afterwards, they headed for the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant. Located in the Dapeng New District of Shenzhen, the plant has the largest installed capacity of nuclear power in China. It is also the country’s first large-scale nuclear power plant for commercial purposes.

The tours gave the international students a direct and detailed impression on China’s innovative efforts of developing the nation’s own technologies, industries and brands.

“Nothing could have been better than this trip. I got to visit and see the technological development in China,” said by Nigerian student Sanjay Kumarrouniyar.

“I would like to thank CSC and SCUT for organizing such a wonderful event which definitely have added value to our experience and knowledge.”
