Objectives
This program aims to cultivate inter-disciplinary specialists who are well-developed morally, intellectually and physically; who are equipped with a solid theoretical foundation and profound specialized knowledge of the filed; who are well-informed with the technology and developing trend of the research field; who are able to undertake jobs of teaching, scientific researches, technology development, engineering design, technology management and experimental researches in the field of Safety Engineering.

Cultivation Mode
Advisory system is applied in this program. Students should set out a working program with the instruction of their supervisors in the first two weeks after registration. Students are supposed to participate in the stage assessment according to Master Degree Candidate Medium-Term Screening Method of South China University of Technology and complete the required social practices before the end of the third semester. Regular seminar reports are also required.
Dissertation
Students should make a thesis writing plan between the 11th and the 20th weeks in the third semester and start writing Literature Review and Thesis Proposals before the end of the third semester. The amount of review of literature should reach to at least 45 pieces, among which those in English should be no less than 15 pieces. Before applying for Thesis Defense, graduates are required to publish officially at least one academic paper with South China University of Technology signed as the first unit, or the student signed as the first author or the supervisor signed as the first author and the student the second; or have one published paper recruited by one of the three indexes SCI, EI or ISTP; or have one authorized patent. Thesis defense will be arranged according to Rules for the Implementation of Graduation Degrees of South China University of Technology and Regulations of the Applications for Thesis Defense of South China University of Technology on the completion of theses. Apart from the above related regulations of degree thesis made by SCUT, a thesis is supposed to meet the school requirements in terms of its academic nature, systematicness, innovativeness and the art of writing.
