Our undergraduate students awarded in the 8thGuangdong University Student Material Innovation Competition

On December 9, the finals of the 8thGuangdong University Students Material Innovation Competition, sponsored by Guangdong Institute of Materials Research and by Foshan Institute of Science and Technology, came to an end. After fierce competition in the final and final competitions of each sub-area, the undergraduates of our school have won one first prize and one second prize.

Associate Professor Linxin Zhong, supervised undergraduate Qingsong Luo's project titled "Preparation and Pressure Sensing Application of Biomass-based Compressible Elastic Carbon Material", won the first prize in the Polymer Material Division and the first prize in the final undergraduate group which is also the only first prize. Qingsong Luo spoke as an award-winning representative of undergraduate students. Linxin Zhong was awarded excellent instructor. Associate Professor Zhiqiang Fang supervised undergraduate student Bo Li's project titled "Preparation, Structure and Properties of High Strength Transparent Cellulose Material" won the second prize of the Polymer Material Division.

The competition attracted more than 800 participants from 173 teams and 33 universities including Beijing University of Technology, Northeast University, China University of Mining and Technology, Hunan University, Central South University, Nanjing University, Nanjing University of Technology, Xiamen University and so on. The entries are based on the latest innovative design achievements obtained by undergraduate students majoring in materials and related disciplines, including patents, articles and innovative design concepts, involving polymer materials, inorganic non-metallic materials, metal materials and other new materials.

It is known that Guangdong University Students Material Innovation Competition has successfully held eight competitions so far, and has a wide influence in the industry. The competition aims to cultivate students ‘innovative thinking and scientific research ability in an all-round way, stimulate students' interest in scientific research and enthusiasm for practical success, and encourage students to study innovative scientific achievements of certain practical value by observing and analyzing the current situation of the development of materials specialty and combining the knowledge they have learned, so as to promote students to grow into innovative people with new scientific research consciousness and good at exploiting scientific research value.  

In recent years, focusing on the training objectives of the three innovative talents, our school pays more attention to the cultivation of undergraduate students’ innovative ability. Through further promoting undergraduate tutorial system, organizing and developing academic activities such as scientific research speech contests and light industry students' academic innovation contests, we strongly support students to participate in high-level innovation and entrepreneurship competitions at school, provincial and national levels, and create an innovative atmosphere.
