Abstract

Computing systems, from data center and HPC to smart phone, automobile, and aircraft, are integrating growing numbers of processors, accelerators, memories, and peripherals to meet the burgeoning performance requirements of new applications under tight cost, energy, thermal, space, and weight constraints. Silicon photonics technologies piggyback onto developed silicon fabrication processes to provide viable and cost-effective solutions. A large number of silicon photonics devices and circuits have been demonstrated in CMOS-compatible fabrication processes. Silicon photonics technologies open up both new opportunities to applications, architectures, design techniques, and design automation tools. Based on our decade-long quest to transform computing with photonics, this talk will highlight our recent progresses on photonics-electronics codesigns that can rejuvenate post-Moore's Law computing. We are trying to answer several key questions: How could computing systems benefit from photonics technologies? What technologies are required? And what are the challenges?

Biography

须江在美国普林斯顿大学获得博士学位,现为香港科技大学和香港科技大学(广州)教授、微电子学域创始系主任、芯片中央实验室负责人、EDA研究中心主任。其研究领域为集成电路及其设计工具。须江曾在美国贝尔实验室、NEC美国实验室、美国初创公司Sandbridge Technologies(被美国高通公司收购)任职,参与研制并成功实现了两代用于智能手机的多核处理器片上系统芯片。他发表了140多篇论文,开发并开源8个集成电路设计工具,并获得6个美国和中国发明专利。并多次受邀在国际会议上做大会报告、特邀报告和专题讲座。他现任IEEE Transactions on Very Large Scale Integration Systems副编辑和多个国际会议的指导委员会,组织委员会和评审委员会的主席和委员。须江获得了IEEE计算机协会杰出贡献奖的奠基获奖者、IEEE计算机协会杰出访问学者和ACM杰出报告学者的殊荣。
