报告人简介：Dr Tan Soon Keat retired fromNanyang Technological University,Singapore in 2023. He is bothan academic and a professional engineer practising as a consultant for over 40years in areas including hydraulic design, water resources engineering,sediment transport and coastal engineering. 

Dr Tan hadconducted numerical and physical model studies for hydraulic systems, on suchproject as river training, coastal defence, near-shore and offshore structuresand platform, ocean intake and outfall, pumping stations, pipe network, as wellas dispersion and diffusion in the surface water and subsurface water andaquifer.  At the national level, Dr Tan had served as a member of thedrainage design review panel for the Ministry of Environment and WaterResources,Singapore, and was a resource specialist in the panel of the GPCMND/MEWR Resource/NEA Panel for Singapore. Dr Tan's research interests includeapplication of geographical information system (GIS) in water resources,numerical simulation of flow for hydraulics, hydrodynamics, and coastalengineering applications. Recently Dr Tan became increasing involved withimpact of climate change, environmental engineering issues such as waterquality, environmental impact and waste management from the perspective ofsurface water management.

报告简介：Coastal development in Singapore ischallenging.Not only that the available coastline for development is limited,but the coastal area is also rather small, and the coastal waters supports manycompeting activities. It is always a wonder how Singapore could establish manyindustries (ship building, ship repairs, for example), utilities (desalination,estuary reservoirs, port and harbour), petroleum, chemical and powerindustries, as well as recreational activities such as beaches, birdsanctuaries and nature parks. Through this seminar, the presenter shares with theaudience, coastal developments in Singapore, from 1970s to the present, outlookand future challenges.
