Japanese Department  

In order to meet the demand for talents in the new period of Sino-Japanese economic cooperation and the development of internationalization of the new century, South China University of Technology (SCUT) established the Japanese Department in 2003 and began to recruit undergraduates. In 2015, the department began to offer a master’s degree program in Japanese translation, and started to enroll graduates. The Japanese Department now embraces a group of senior teachers with excessive ideological and political education, high-quality academic profession, excellent researching level, and rich teaching and practicing experience. The team members are mainly engaged in teaching and research in Japanese linguistics, cross-cultural translation studies, Japanese-Chinese contrast, Japanese society, etc. Most of them have experience in studying abroad or research cooperation in Japan. The Department regularly invites well-known scholars from home and abroad to come to the school for academic exchanges and special lectures every year. The academic atmosphere is strong. To improve talents’ quality, the department encourages students not only to excel in their majors but also to study another specialty and pursue double degrees. In terms of internationalization, the Japanese Department actively expands the platform for students to go to Japan for study, and has established stable cooperative relations with such famous universities as Kyushu University, Hiroshima University, Kanazawa University, Tokyo Metropolitan University, and Hosei University, etc. As for employment data, Japanese graduates are mainly active in Japanese-funded enterprises, government agencies, and research institutes.
