time: 2018-12-27

On Dec. 21, 2018, Dr. Janaswamy Srinivas from South Dakota State University, USA had visited the School of Food Science and Engineering of the South China University of Technology. He gave interesting lectures with topics of Ordered Carbohydrate Systems as Host Materials of Bioactive Compounds, and Functional Food Products from Agriculture Biomass in Dongtang Hall, Building 13. Joined by more than 40 participants, the lecture was hosted by vice dean Xiaoxi Li.

Dr. Janaswamy started his lecture by welcoming all the participants and thanking the support from the School of Food Science and Engineering. He stated the relationships between food functional ingredients and human health, and illustrated the influences of the structures of ingredient-loaded carriers on bioactive ingredients’ release behaviors. Besides, he presented a facile approach for fabricating functional cellulose-based food systems from agriculture biomass. His outstanding research achievements in carbohydrate-based delivery systems and agriculture biomass-based functional food products have greatly attracted listeners’ attention. Particularly, the principles of designing and fabricating functional food systems load with bioactive ingredients were warmly discussed.

Dr. Janaswamy and the School of Food Science and Engineering believed that this visit would enrich the knowledge on both sides and increase the collaborative research work based on both strengths and capabilities. (Correspondent: Chengdeng Chi and Huan Chen)
