Prof. Song Miao from Teagasc Food Research Centre, Ireland visited School of Food Science and Engineering

On Dec. 17, 2018, Professor Song Miao from Teagasc Food Research Centre, Ireland had visited the School of Food Science and Engineering of the South China University of Technology. He gave an interesting lecture with a topic of Irish Agri-Food Research and Food Structure Design within Teagasc Food Research Centre, Ireland in Dongtang Hall, Building 13. Joined by more than 50 participants, the lecture was hosted by vice dean Xiaoxi Li.

Professor Song Miao started his lecture by welcoming all the participants and thanking the support from the School of Food Science and Engineering. He firstly gave a brief introduction on subjects of education, economics, and research of Ireland. Then, he detailed the idea of fabricating functional foods via structuring foods with specific structural features. His outstanding concept for research greatly attracted listeners’ attention. Particularly, his achievements on structured emulsion and structured solid-based foods were warmly discussed aimed to develop structured delivery systems for edible bioactive ingredients.

The lecture was successfully held with the assistance from the School of Food Science and Engineering. Overall, Professor Song Miao and the School of Food Science and Engineering believed that this visit would enrich the knowledge on both sides and increase the collaborative research work based on both strengths and capabilities.
