National Engineering Laboratory for Wheat & Corn Further Processing was established by the approval from the National Development and Reform Commission at May 2011. The School of Food Science and Engineering in South China University of Technology is one of four participating institutes. To enhance the capacity for innovation and global competitiveness of foodstuff processing industry in China, the technical bottlenecks that restrict the development of this industry have to be broken. In this context, this national engineering laboratory focuses on the development of crucial processing technology for grains (wheat and corn), including effective extraction and separation of active components, manufacture of stable foods, fabrication of functional foods, by-products utilization, products quality control and inspection. In addition, strengthening the national food security and ensuring the sustainable development of the grain processing industry are also the main tasks in this national engineering laboratory.
